HTC Desire 820 is the latest mid-range flagship from HTC recently launched at the IFA, while the Xiaomi Mi4 was launched in August.

Design and Display
The HTC Desire 820 carries a resemblance from its predecessor HTC Desire 816. Its unibody design is made up of glossy polycarbonate with rounded corners and sides. It has a dimension of 157.7x78.7x7.7mm and weighing 155grams. It sports a large 5.5inch 720p screen display with 271ppi.
Xiaomi Mi4 shares the same resolution and screen display with its predecessor. It features a 5-inch Full HD display with a 1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution. Its dimensions are 8.9 mmX139.2 mmX68.5 mm, while it weighs 149 grams.
Hardware and OS
The Desire 820 is one of the few Android phones that runs in 64-bit processor. It is powered by an octa- core with a quad-core 1.5GHz Cortex-A53 and quad core 1GHz Cortex-A53 CPU. It is supported by a Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 chipset that is 64-bit capable. Backed by a 2GB of RAM and Adreno 405 GPU.
Meanwhile, the Xiaomi Mi4 also features a powerful processor, it runs in a 2.5 GHZ quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and a 3GB of RAM.
Both handsets run on Android 4.4.4 KitKat with HTC Sense 6 on the Desire 820 and MIUI 6 on Xiaomi Mi4.
The HTC Desire 820 features a 16GB of internal memory and allows a larger expandable memory up to 128GB via micro sd. Meanwhile, the Xiaomi Mi4 is available at 16 or 64GB internal storage and lacks a micro SD support.
Camera
As per reports these two handsets are good snappers.
The HTC Desire 820 sports a 13 mega pixels rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, HDR, HD video and image recording. Its 8MP front camera offers high quality images and best for a selfie snapper.
Xiamo Mi4 also shares the same megapixel on its rear camera but boasts a Sony Exmor IMX214 rear-facing camera and 8MP Sony Exmor IMX219 front camera is a better selfie snapper.
Battery And Price
When it comes to battery life the Xiaomi Mi4 can last longer in terms of usage it is backed by a 3050mAh battery that lasts up to 280 hours in standby mode while the HTC Desire 820 houses a 2800mAh battery that allows 22 hours of talktime on 3G.
The HTC Desire is priced at $410, while the Xiaomi Mi4 costs at $385 dollars.
