After the last update on the developing "Top Gun 2" sequel, we have updated news revealing production details and return of original "Top Gun" lead, Tom Cruise and his involvement in the decades-late sequel.
Almost three decades until rumors of "Top Gun" sequel surfaces online. While these rumors prove to be true, we are getting just a few details of "Top Gun 2" until recently. Apart from confirmation that "Top Gun 2" is indeed in the works, let's review what we know so far about "Top Gun 2".
First and foremost, "Top Gun 2" release date. While development and talks of "Top Gun 2" began in 2010, it is only recently that we are hearing actual developments on "Top Gun 2"-the release date, sadly isn't one of them. The "Top Gun 2" producers and Jerry Bruckheimer himself has not announced even a vague year of release date for "Top Gun 2". However, they are indeed working on it.
Onto "Top Gun 2" production team then. While news obviously confirms the involvement of Jerry Bruckheimer who has been with the project since "Top Gun 2" surfaced online, recent news reveals that writer Justin Marks is in negotiations as screenwriter for "Top Gun 2". Justin Marks is known for his work in the television movie "Rewind" in 2013 and "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li" in 2009.
As for "Top Gun 2" cast members, there have been no confirmations yet on who will be part of the "Top Gun 2" cast upon its release date. While of course Tom Cruise has been connected with the sequel as he starred in the first "Top Gun" in 1986, other characters remain unknown.
Speaking to MTV, Tom Cruise talks about "Top Gun 2" early this year. He says, "I hope we can figure this out to go do it again. If we can find a story that we all want to do, we all want to make a film that is in the same kind of tone as the other one and shoot it in the same way as we shot 'Top Gun'".
Will we see the return of Tom Cruise's Maverick upon the "Top Gun 2" release date, then? Based on reports, this will be decided upon as the screenplay for "Top Gun 2" is finalized. So, we know at least the "Top Gun 2" is in development. For "Top Gun" fans both old and young, this is enough, for now.
