Earlier reports have it that model and socialite Cara Delevingne is set to play Harley Quinn in the Suicide Squad movie that will be released in 2016. Casting is yet to be confirmed for the DC Comics-based movie but according to Latino Review, Cara is "under consideration for a key role." That news came out almost two weeks ago. Now, in sudden turn of events, it seems that Cara Delevingne has been beaten for the role by another up and coming actress.
Reports from Collider revealed that Margot Robbie, known for playing Naomi Lapaglia opposite Leonardo di Caprio in The Wolf of Wall Street, has been tapped to play Harley Quinn.
"A few weeks ago, we reported that Will Smith, Tom Hardy, and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) was close to signing on to Suicide Squad, a film director David Ayer describes as "The Dirty Dozen with supervillains." Hot on the heels of learning that Jared Leto is being courted to play The Joker, we have now learned from sources that Robbie will play Harley Quinn."
The Collider also wrote that Margot's casting for the Suicide Squad movie is perfect, especially with the way the Australian actress' popularity is rising. By the time the film hit theaters, Robbie will attract many fans.
"No matter the depiction (and I assume it will be reasonable and not this), casting Robbie is a smart move on the production's part. She got people's attention with Wolf of Wall Street, and with upcoming roles in Focus, Tarzan, Z for Zachariah, and The Taliban Shuffle, she should be a bigger name by the time Suicide Squad rolls around."
There's no confirmed reports on official Suicide Squad movie cast yet. As of today, actors who were rumored to play huge roles in the Suicide Squad film are Jared Leto as The Joker and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor who he will also play in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice movie.
