According to James Binns of PCGamesN in an interview with BBC, "If you are looking for a game that was inspired by the original 'Elite' then 'No Man's Sky' is that game," referring to a technique known as "procedural generation" common in both games.
Hello Games describes "No Man's Sky" as "a game about exploration and survival in an infinite procedurally generated universe."
