Los Angeles Lakers Latest News: Kobe Bryant Gets Defender In Former Coach Phil Jackson

| By

The Los Angeles Lakers are having their worst season since it moved to Hollywood from Minneapolis. With a 0-5 win loss card, many are already ruling out the team for the 2014-15 NBA Playoffs. The team has been receiving unsolicited suggestions with their current situations, including the idea of trading their superstar Kobe Bryant. Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix wrote that the Los Angeles Lakers should at least consider a Kobe Bryant trade. He wants to trade the player who helped Lakers win five championships to open cap salary and acquire younger stars.

Over the first five games, Kobe Bryant is averaging 27.6 points per game to lead the top scorer list. Although Kobe continue to produce All-Star level numbers, he is still being criticized because those numbers come with a poor field goal shooting. In their last game against the Phoenix, Bryant recorded a 14 out of 37 shooting. He is under fire for shooting much but he found a friend that tells what he is doing is right.

Phil Jackson, Kobe's former coach with the Los Angeles with whom he won five championship rings together with Shaquille O'neal, defended the 36-year old superstar from a tweet made by ESPN host Bomani Jones who was not impressed by Kobe Bryant's 39 points.

Jones said:

@bomani_jones: in other news, the defenses of 37 shots for 39 points...man, if only kobe could play d like that...

and i get it. kobe's teammates aren't good. but most of them could score 39 on 37 shots. so don't give me that one.

Phil Jackson happened to see his tweet and instantly expressed his disapproval on what Jones said to his former player, indicating Kobe Bryant is special and only few men have the guts to take that number of shots.

"@bomani_jones you don't get it. Most players can't GET 10 shots let alone 30+ shots. It takes a special athlete to get a good shot in NBA."
