It is no secret that English actor Eddie Redmayne is great at his craft. At age 32, he has already won and nominated for several awards for his roles in different movies and theaters plays. His latest awards though isn't just another trophy he can display on his cabinet. This award will somehow put the Theory of Everything movie star on the same breath as top-billed actors in the Hollywood.
Variety reported that Redmayne is set to receive an award from the Palm Springs International Film Festival for his performance in Theory of Everything which will hit American theaters on November 7. The movie is based on the memoir Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen by Jane Hawking, the ex-wife of the popular theoretical physicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking.
"From 'The Good Shepherd' to 'Les Miserables,' Eddie Redmayne has proven himself an actor poised for greatness," says Harold Matzner, chairman of the festival.
"In 'The Theory of Everything,' as ALS-stricken scientist Stephen Hawking, Redmayne captivates his audience as he goes through a powerful physical transformation, from a healthy college student to a dependent wheelchair-bound middle-aged man, in what is truly a stunning performance."
The award is given to an actor and an actress annually. Some of those who received the award before are Jeff Bridges, Bradley Cooper, Daniel Day-Lewis, Matthew McConaughey and Sean Penn. Eddie Redmayne is expected to attend the gala and receive the award on the ceremony to be held at the Palm Springs Convention Center scheduled on January next year, a day after Theory of Everything movie make its premier in the United Kingdom cinemas.
Theory of Everything movie may not be in theaters yet but it has already been screened. The movie got great reviews overall and Redmayne was credited for it. The Guardian praised the English actor saying: "Redmayne towers: this is an astonishing, genuinely visceral performance which bears comparison with Daniel Day-Lewis in My Left Foot."
Aside from Redmayne, Theory Of Everything Movie also stars Felicity Jones as Jane Hawking and Charlie Cox as Jonathan Hellyer Jones.
