Congratulations to the proud new parents of baby Briar Rose! Rachel Bilson and boyfriend Hayden Christensen just welcomed a daughter together. This was confirmed by multiple sources to Us Weekly.
Their daughter was named after a lovely Disney princess. Briar Rose is the name given to Princess Aurora by the three good fairies in the 1959 Disney classic, Sleeping Beauty.
The 33-year-old mom and her boyfriend broke the news to the public that they were expecting a baby last May. According to an insider at that time, "They've both talked about this for a while and are so excited. Everyone is beyond thrilled for them."
Rachel Bilson's co-star in the series Hart of Dixie, Jamie King, had revealed to Us about the O.C. alum last May. "It's a really celebratory time. I'm really thrilled and happy that she's going to be on this next journey of her life," the actress and fellow mom said at the Annenberg Space for Photography Exhibit Opening in L.A.
She had also noted that the brunette-haired beauty, Bilson, often showed her maternal instincts whenever she would play with her baby son James on set. She gave her full support to Bilson and happily added: "I know she's going to be the best mother."
The O.C. star, who played the character of Summer Roberts, had a wonderful baby shower on August 31. Guests at the private L.A. party included her family, former classmates, King, and Natalie Portman. Instead of giving gifts to the celebrant, the attendees brought a birth bead to be made into a necklace. A source told Us, "She will use the beads for strength during labor."
The happy couple first met on set of the 2008 film Jumper and was engaged at the end of that year, in December 2008. They quietly called off their engagement in August 2010 and then reconciled three months later.
Last May, Bilson talked to Cosmopolitan magazine about motherhood. "I definitely have family on the brain. Having kids is something I want to see in my future-I hope."
