Channing Tatum is set to cast in Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight."

Though details remain sketchy, the actor will reportedly have a major part in the western, according to Deadline.com.

Channing Tatum will have a major role in Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight"

Tatum will line up alongside Samuel L Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, Kurt Russell and Tim Roth in the movie, which is said to similar in tone to a tense stage play. The story follows a pair of bounty hunters transporting prisoners through 19th-century Wyoming.

Jennifer Lawrence is being sought for one of the other major roles, though it's unclear which.

Further characters yet to be announced may include a renegade Confederate soldier and a female prisoner in a saloon.

Despite a string of drawbacks (including the script leaking and Tarantino suing Gawker for posting the links online), "The Hateful Eight" remains on course to shoot in January 2015, with the director shooting in 70mm.

Tatum is forging a position as one of the most adaptable actors in Hollywood. He's ultimately been hot property since "Magic Mike" in 2012, though since then he's scored critical acclaim for his comedy performances in "21 and 22 Jump Street" and could land an Oscar nomination for Bennett Miller's upcoming drama "Foxcatcher."

Quentin Tarantino is taking extreme measures to ensure the new Hateful Eight script remains under wraps.

Insiders say that "extreme security precautions" are taking place to prevent another leak.

Several members of the cast did a public reading of the original script in Los Angeles in April, though Tarantino said the event would be the one and only time that the story would be seen with its original ending - when all of the characters die.

That buyers looking to invest in the film must be invited to read the script at the Weinstein headquarters in Beverly Hills where they can be supervised by the staff.

The Weinstein Company used a similar privacy tactic with the script for Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master" in 2011.
