Last week, Ryan Murphy revealed one of the biggest pieces of "American Horror Story" news ever: all four seasons of the anthology series are connected.
While this was no doubt exciting news for fans, it also distracted from another major reveal in Murphy's interview with Entertainment Weekly. The series creator shared that Twisty the Clown, who (spoiler alert if you haven't seen "Freak Show" Episode 4) was killed by Edward Mordrake, will return later this season. Murphy added that both Twisty and Edward will make "triumphant returns."
This usually wouldn't come as a surprise with "AHS," since the show is notorious for bringing back dead characters in later episodes. But Murphy told EW earlier in September that on "Freak Show," "once you die, you're dead."
Vanity Fair has already called out Murphy for going back on his own word, but it makes us wonder just how Twisty will return. Murphy said this season includes no supernatural elements, but now that we know all the seasons are connected anything is possible.
Angela Bassett, who plays Desiree Dupree this season, told us last week that they're still filming episodes and that she has no idea how the season will end.
She also told Vulture that anything can happen in the world of "AHS," saying, "I wouldn't trust what [Murphy] says -- he cuts folks heads off," likely referring to Kathy Bates' "Coven" character. Naomi Grossman, who's reprising her "Asylum" character, Pepper, this season, recently said that "the biggest names in the series" get killed off half-way through "Freak Show."
All we know is that Twisty will be back in some shape or form alongside the two-faced Mordrake, and that when it comes to Murphy, we should leave all expectations behind.
