Kevin Durant trade does not make it to the news as often as Lebron James' or Kevin Love's because he's not yet available until after almost two years. However, once his contract ends with the Oklahoma City Thunder, expect it to become the hottest sports headlines. He is after all a one-time MVP and four time scoring champion. Most importantly, he is only 26 years old. Durant will be a free agent in 2016. For an NBA team, you better make an offer that is probably bigger than the world as Durantula has reportedly narrowed down his choices for the 2016 free agency.
According to Zach Lowe of Grantland, Kevin Durant, who is currently sidelined by foot injury, is already thinking about his future with his current team with whom he had one finals appearance but no NBA championship ring.
"The Texas teams will take their shot if they hear the right intel, and Durant's hometown Wizards are biding their time in the easier conference. That intel is all over the place, by the way. Some teams are optimistic it will be open season, and others have heard rumblings that Durant has already made it known it will come down to the Thunder and Wizards. Nobody really knows."
Lowe also noted that richer teams like the Brooklyn Nets and the Washington Wizards could possibly jump on the Kevin Durant trade as well as the Golden State Warriors which has an absurd below-market deal through 2017. Seeing Durant in a Wizards is pretty much like the situation of Lebron James this year after he was finished taking his talents to the Miami Heat. The four-time MVP went back to the Cleveland where he grew up. Kevin Durant was born in Washington DC and spent his childhood there.
The news of Kevin Durant trade to Washington Wizards first surfaced in February of this year. However, the 26-year old player insisted that he hasn't thought about that.
"I don't even want to think about that. I haven't given it any thought, playing up here. I love Oklahoma City. I love coming here and visiting."
Well, we'll never know what would happen in two years.
