LG reveals the thinnest bezel in the world with its five-inch display.
In this case, a bezel is the panel that covers the front of a computer case, or the panel covering each drive bay that can be removed to install a removable drive that requires external access, such as a CD/DVD-ROM drive, which usually has its own preinstalled bezel, according to gizmodo.com.
The benefit to having a thin bezel display allows manufactures to create larger display and will not take up too much space because of its bezel. We dream about smartphones having bezel less where we can look forward to the whole front side of the device and it can still fit nicely in our hands. LG seems to have taken the lead in screen from Samsung is now the first demonstrate a 5-inch display with just 1mm thin bezel, according to gizmodo.com.
The bezel on LG display's measure an impressive 0.7mm which we can see the image above is almost invisible. LG gave their explanation how they managed to achieve the bezel width, "LG display's Neo Edge technology uses an adhesive instead of double sided tape to attach and completely seal the total area and edges of the panel's circuit board and backlight unit."
"Because there is no plastic guide panel to attach the panel and backlight, the Neo Edge technology helps achieve minimal bezel width, while blocking light leakage and being waterproof and dustproof." The display in question measure 5.3-inches and will feature a 1080p Full HD display. It was made using TFT Oxide technology making it power efficient and slim.
Though LG is not the first to create an ultra-thin bezel, it claims its display is the "world's thinnest" with hotter and higher resolution than the Sharp Aquos Crystal. With CES only a few months away, we could soon see similar announcements from other hardware makers as well.
