Channing Tatum Gambit Confirmed: Fox Is Pushing Stand-Alone Movie For X-Men As Channing Tatum Stars As Gambit

| By

Fox is moving ahead with their stand-alone movie for X-Men superhero Gambit, according to Deadline, and Channing Tatum will be starring. While the news of the film had originally broke in May, Tatum is now said to be officially attached to the project and Robocop writer Josh Zetumer is said to be working on the screenplay.

According to Deadline the screenplay will be based on a treatment written Chris Claremont, who created the character for Marvel with Jim Lee in 1990.

Tatum will also serve as a producer on the film, with his Free Association partner Reid Carolin, The Donners Company's Lauren Shuler Donner, and Genre Films' Simon Kinberg.

First introduced in 'Uncanny X-Men' in 1990, Gambit, who is also known as Remy LeBeau, is a mutant with the ability to mentally create, control and manipulate pure kinetic energy to his every desire. He's also known for his card throwing and combat skills as well as being quite the ladies man.

So far the story for Gambit's solo film is being kept well under wraps. However it wont be the first time Gambit has appeared onscreen, He made a brief appearance in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine where he was played by Taylor Kitsch.

Tatum has long been a fan of the character and told MTV in April "Gambit's the only X-Man I ever loved. He's the most un-X-Man X-Man that's ever been an X-Man, he loves women and drinking and smoking."

Its unclear when we can expect to see Gambit's movie, however the next X-Men big screen outing will be Days of Future Past follow up X-Men: Apocalypse, coming in summer 2017

Meanwhile, things are going pretty well for Tatum at the moment as his next movie Foxcatcher has gained a considerable amount of Oscar buzz. In the film Tatum plays amateur wrestler Mark Schultz, opposite Steve Carrell and Mark Ruffalo.
