| By

If we are going look into Captain Marvel characters' appearance, three identities are always on front including Carol Danvers, Mar-Vell, and Shazam. But who is the real Captain Marvel that is going to have a movie release in 2018?

In 1939, artist C. C. Beck and Writer Bill Parker created a character named Shazam, also known as Captain Marvel, a fictional superhero who appears in American comic books published by DC Comics. He is described as Billy Batson's alter ego, a boy who, by speaking the magic word "Shazam", can transform himself into a costumed man with the power of six mythological figures (Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury, hence the word "Shazam").

The superhero was also the first comic book superhero to be adapted into film, in a 1941 Republic Pictures serial titled Adventures of Captain Marvel, claiming as the most popular superhero of the 1940s, outselling even Superman. Until Fawcett ceased publishing Captain Marvel-related comics in 1953 due to allegations of a copyright infringement suit from DC Comics that Captain Marvel was a copy of Superman.

By 1972, DC licensed the Marvel Family characters from Fawcett and returned them to publication, acquiring all rights to the characters by 1991. But Due to trademark conflicts over another character named "Captain Marvel" owned by Marvel Comics since 1967, DC Comics renamed their character "Shazam" after relaunching their comic book line in 2011

Another character believes to be the first Captain Marvel is an alien military officer named Mar-Vell, also known as Captain Mar-Vell of the Kree Imperial Militia, who is sent to observe the planet Earth as it is developing technology to travel into space; debuted in December 1967. It was the first Captain Marvel created by Stan Lee and Gene Colan in Marvel Super-Heroes #12, whom later on died from cancer on Titan in the presence of the Marvel Universe's superhero community, as chronicled in Marvel's first large-format graphic novel, The Death of Captain Marvel.

But according to Kevin Feige, "This Captain Marvel's name is Carol Danvers." He clarified that the mantle passed through several more characters before landing with Carol Danvers in 2012.

Carol Danvers first appeared as a supporting character in Marvel Super-Heroes in 1968. She was a top U.S. Air Force pilot who moved on to the CIA and then NASA, where she met and fell in love with the original Captain Marvel, Mar-Vell. She got her powers when Mar-Vell and his nemesis Yon-Rogg had a battle, where a radioactive explosion leads to Danvers' DNA absorbing Mar-Vell's genetic structure.

After having superpowers including flight and enhanced strength and durability, Danvers' then took on the superhero name Ms. Marvel for the first time in 1977.

During a battle with Mar-Vell's nemesis Yon-Rogg, a radioactive explosion leads to Danvers' DNA absorbing Mar-Vell's genetic structure. That meant she also gained his powers, including flight and enhanced strength and durability. Danvers took on the superhero name Ms. Marvel for the first time in 1977.

Later on, she took the Captain Marvel mantle in 2012 while promoting her own series created by Kelly Sue DeConnick and artist Dexter Soy. During that time, Captain Marvel was the publisher's only solo female superhero title. To comic book readers, she is a fan favorite character that people have been asking Kevin Feige about for years.

Moreover, Feige also added that the studio is still looking for an actress to play the alter-ego of Carol Danvers, but further said there is plenty of time with the film due for release in 2018.

While a persistent rumor, since last year that the Battlestar Galactica actress Katee Sackhoff is higly possible to play Carol Danvers. Whereas the actress later changed her statements regarding the matter, she originally said, "There's been some stuff going on. There's been a lot of checking of availability," which seemed to imply she was at least speaking about Marvel.

Still, it is worth noting that Captain Marvel is not scheduled until a 2018 release, which apparently means the studio is scouting for a new and younger celebrity.

Captain Marvel will be Marvel's first film with a female lead which will be release in theaters on July 6, 2018.
