Reality Bites Remake Confirmed As Ben Stiller Produces Sequel! Casting Options Revealed?

| By

It has been confirmed that the Reality Bites Remake is set to proceed, after director Ben Stiller approved the plans to adapt the 90's hit film into a TV series.

The original movie features Winona Ryder (Pierce), Ethan Hawke (Troy), Janeane Garofalo (Vickie), Steve Zahn (Sammy), and director Ben Stiller (Michael), with supporting roles by Janeane Garofalo and Steve Zahn. "The plot follows Lelaina (Ryder), an aspiringvideographer working on a documentary called Reality Bites about the disenfranchised lives of her friends and roommates. Their challenges exemplify some of the career and lifestyle choices faced by Generation X. The film was well-received critically and commercially." - wikipedia.org

According to theguardian.com:

"Nearly 20 years on, and the movie's achilles heel looks likely to prove its most appealing asset, with 90s nostalgia all the rage. Stiller, who will executive produce, plans a single-camera show running to half an hour in length, which is likely to screen on the NBC network in the US. It will centre around Ryder's character, Lelaina Pierce, from the original film, described as a recent college graduate struggling to make her way romantically and professionally in the recession-plagued, pre-internet early 1990s in Houston, where she shares an apartment with slacker friends. With Ryder herself now 41, the role is likely to be recast."

Stiller, who directed the movie, is set to be the excutive producer for the upcoming series. It has also been reported that screenwriter Helen Childress will be writing for the TV series, although it is unclear as to whether she will be writing for the whole season, or just the pilot episode. The TV series will be revolving around Lelaina Pierce (Ryder's character) and her friends, Troy, Vickie, and Sammy.

According to enstarz.com in their article about the Reality Bites Remake:

"The coming-of-age story is set in Houston and follows the life of recent college graduate, Pierce, who is struggling to make it as a documentary filmmaker, dealing with new responsibilities, and figuring out how to navigate her relationships with lovers, friends, and family. The series will maintain the early Nineties setting of the movie."

"The series is being produced by Universal Television, a sister concern of the film's producer Universal Pictures. Co-producing with Uni TV are Stiller's Red Hour Television and Double Feature Films, the company run by Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher, who were also producers on the 1994 film."

As for the Casting, there are still no reports as to who will be playing the characters.
