Bungie finally revealed Destiny's first expansion, Destiny: The Dark Below and its release date!
The Dark Below will finally hit digital store shelves on December 9 for $19.99 / £19.99 as a standalone purchase, or as part of the $34.99 / £34.99 Season pass which also offers the second expansion, House of Wolves. The first expansion will include some new story content, and will give high-level players even more content to consume and more accomplishments to pursue.
Bungie says that the 'The Dark Below' new story missions will focus on the character of Crota, the Hive god.
The expanded story of Destiny: The Dark Below will manifest through the appearance of the new character-Eris, at the Tower after spending years of hiding among the Hive only to come forward bearing a warning. The Hive are apparently trying to summon a god, Crota, to destroy Earth. Eris will be offering you special quests including three new missions where you can increase your Light and get new rewards.
Other additions include a new story content, and will also introduce a new co-operative Strike, called The Will of Crota, which pits you against Omnigul as she works to multiply Crota's Hive army, and a new six-player Raid called Crota's End, where you enter the Hellmouth presumably to take the deity on. On top of that, PlayStation owners will get a limited second Strike called The Undying Mind.
According to Bungie, along with the expected new weapons and armour, the Light Level cap will also raise to 32 with five new bounty slots also added, but there was no word on whether a third subclass will be added to each Guardian class.
And lastly, 'Destiny: The Dark Below' will also include three new multiplayer maps:
1. Pantheon - a map focused on tight corridors set in the Black Garden inside a Vex temple.
2. Skyshock - an old interplanetary defense array.
3. The Cauldron - an abandoned Hive ritual site focused on close combat.
Destiny: The Dark Below releases December 9, 2014 for PS4 and Xbox One. While the second expansion, House of Wolves, will launch at some point in 2015.
