Angry Birds movie will also soon hit the cinemas!

Angry Birds is a video game franchise created by Finnish computer game developer Rovio Entertainment that was first released for Apple's iOS in December 2009, and then the company started to design versions for other touchscreen-based smartphones, including the Android, Symbian and Windows Phone operating systems. It has since expanded to video game consoles and PCs.

After being called as "one of the most mainstream games out right now", "one of the great runaway hits of 2010", and "the largest mobile app success the world has seen so far", Angry Birds will now be produce as a 3D computer-animated film.

It is developed, produced and financed by Rovio Entertainment, animated by Sony Pictures Imageworks, and distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures Entertainment.

The Angry Birds movie will be directed by animation veterans Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly in their directorial debut. Jon Vitti wrote the film's screenplay, and John Cohen and Catherine Winder will serve as the producers. Furthermore, Rovio also hired David Maisel, former executive producer of Marvel Studios films such as Iron Man and Thor, to head up production of feature-length films.

Sony and Rovio seem to include as many comedians as possible in their animated Angry Birds movie. The voice cast, announced Wednesday, will star Saturday Night Live alumnus Jason Sudeikis as the iconic Red bird.

Also includes, Josh Gad, who cut his teeth in the animated world in Frozen, as the yellow bird Chuck, and Danny McBride will play Bomb, both characters that fans of the game will know. Another SNL alum, Bill Hader, has been cast as the evil pigs.

Meanwhile, Maya Rudolph and Peter Dinklage, who recently contributed voiceover work to video game Destiny, make up for the starring roles as Matilda and The Mighty Eagle. The supporting cast includes comedians like Hannibal Buress, Kate McKinnon, Keegan-Michael Key and Ike Barinholtz, as well as Arrested Development's Tony Hale and Orange Is the New Black's Danielle Brooks.

Producer John Cohen said: "I'm extremely proud of this cast. Not only do we have Jason, Josh, Danny, Bill, Maya, and Peter bringing these characters to life, but they're surrounded by an all-star ensemble of emerging comedic talent - these are some of the funniest people out there today, and we're thrilled to have them all on board."

The Angry Birds feature film debut is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 1, 2016.
