Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding, who had a short-lived relationship in 2013, was under intense heat this year after fans speculated that one of the 'Thinking Out Loud' crooner's songs alluded to his tryst with the 'Burn' songstress.
Their relationship allegedly didn't end well. Rumors of infidelity started circulating after Sheerios interpreted 'Don't' to be a song about a cheating ex-girlfriend. There was more speculation when Sheeran himself revealed that the song was "100% true."
Fans believed that the song exposed Sheeran's ex (allegedly Goulding) to have cheated with one of his closest friends. One Direction's Niall Horan's name was dragged into the issue but Sheeran didn't confirm nor deny his mate's involvement.
In an interview with The Sun, the 'Sing' hitmaker shared what he now thought of the unfaithful girl in his song
"I got over the anger the moment I wrote the song," he told the publication. "It's a song that came at the time that I needed to write. That's the end of it."
He added, "I'm grateful I could get a song out of it, to be honest. I don't feel it's about anyone any more, I'm not attached to that."
Whether the rumors are true or not, Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding seem to have individually moved on from their brief romance and heartbreak.
Sheeran has been dating Athina Andrelos who works for celebrity chef Jamie Oliver since January and they seem to be very smitten with each other.
He told GQ in an interview last summer, "It's the longest I've ever dated anyone, so I guess it must be going pretty good, right?"
The 'I Need Your Love' singer, on the other hand, is looking quite contented with McFly's Dougie Poynter.
Earlier in September, the songwriter said in an interview with Howard Stern that he has also forgiven the friend mentioned in the song. It wasn't without its awkwardness though.
"It's a difficult conversation to have," Sheeran revealed. "He was my mate, so I was just a bit like, 'Um, not cool."
As if to prove that he really has no hard feelings with Horan, Sheeran took a photo with the 'You And I' singer during the iHeartRadio music festival. He also planted a big kiss on the teen heartthrob's cheek.
Do you think Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding's relationship would turn into friendship someday? Do you think they could work on a song together in the future?
