Constantine TV Series News, Spoiler, And Update: Matt Ryan Reveals What Part Of Comics He Wants To Happen In His Show

| By

The Constantine TV series opened in a modest rating during its premier last Friday. However, with the fact that it aired on the same time as the World Series, you can say that the 4.3 million viewers and a 1.4 rating among adults at 18-49 bracket is already a solid debut. Although the ratings are not that strong, the reviews have been great for the new NBC show that stars Welsh actor Matt Ryan in the title role. The Telegraph UK commended the show for being "smart enough to exorcise their own demon this early," saying it is an encouraging sign. Cinema Blend said the Constantine TV series 'got the tone right with pilot episode director Neil Marshall, who previously worked on Game of Thrones, "managed to create a creepy yet cheeky atmosphere, walking the fine line that is 'fun horror' as well as leaving a terrific template for the other directors to follow."

For Constantine TV series executive producers David Goyer and Daniel Cerone, they are not sitting on their laurels. They want to improve the show in every opportunity they have. In fact, after just one episode, they already made one major subtraction and addition by replacing Lucy Griffiths as the show's female lead with Angelica Celaya who will play Zed Martin. Cerone explained that the move was a creative choice.

"We wanted a more dynamic relationship, as opposed to someone who is a teacher/mentor and a student," explained Cerone back in July according to the Hollywood Reporter. "It just didn't feel as fertile and rich of an area as just a strong man and a strong woman who are both very different."

As for Matt Ryan, he is excited with the prospect that the Constantine TV series will stay true to the material where it was based from, the DC comics Hellblazer. He said that he became a fan of the comics ever since he learned that he will be playing John Constantine. If there's one part of the comic book story he wants to happen in the show, it is seen in the Dangerous Habits issue.

"It would be great to play out when John tricks the devil and they get to cure his lung cancer," he told THR. "I don't know if that's something we'll get to do but that'd be a great storyline to play out."
