The Theory Of Everything Movie Release Date: Stephen Hawking Joins Facebook Weeks Before The Release Of His Biopic The Theory Of Everything

| By

Stephen Hawking has joined Facebook, just weeks before Focus Features releases his biopic, "The Theory of Everything."

Hawking's page says he joined Facebook on Oct. 7, but his team hasn't been very active on the site until Friday, apart from uploading some photos.

Friday morning, however, Hawking himself posted two updates.

In one, he ruminates on the universe and says he's excited to connect with people via the social network.

In the second post, he takes the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, explaining that it wouldn't be wise for him to have a bucket of cold water dumped on his head, since he had pneumonia last year, he has his children take the challenge on his behalf.

But in between his kids getting doused with frigid liquid, he accepts the challenge and nominates a few others.

Hawking has seen and is a fan of the biopic, writer Anthony McCarten said in a statement at the film's New York premiere on Monday.

"I didn't even know if we were gonna get his blessing, so I was carrying, for a decade, a sense of trespass," McCarten said. "He sat there and watched it, the lights came up, his nurse wiped a tear from his cheek, and then he composed his verdict. Two words: 'Broadly true.' I let out a sigh that I had been carrying for 10 years."

In the film, Eddie Redmayne plays the professor, who suffers from a motor neuron disease, with Felicity Jones playing his first wife, Jane.

The title is getting awards buzz after its Toronto premiere, which received a prolonged standing ovation, that Redmayne and Jones have strong shots at landing Oscars.

The Theory of Everything hits theaters on Nov. 7.

Hawking has previously appeared on The Big Bang Theory and The Simpsons.
