Misty Upham's Family Disappointed With Auburn Police: "We Could Have Saved Her"

| By

Mona Upham, Misty's mother, accused the Seattle area police of 'not doing enough' to save her daughter. "We are disappointed that the police are not doing more to help find Misty,' she said during the time when Misty was still missing, 'Right now the only people looking for her are myself, my husband and son and daughter."

Her mother also mentioned that the police department's alleged inaction was because of her daughter's Native American background.

"I think if Misty was different-looking they would be doing a lot more to help find her,' Mona Upham said.

The 'Django Unchained' actress went missing for a few days before she was found dead on October 16 at the bottom of the 150-foot embankment in Auburn near the White River.

According to Upham's family, they believe that she did not commit suicide. A post on Facebook states, “We believe she ran into the wooded area behind her apartment to hide from the police.” The post continued that the area has a hidden drop off and it appears she didn’t see it, and slipped and fell off a steep embankment. Charles Upham went on to say that Misty sometimes made suicide threats, but 'never went through with it.'

It was also reported that the actress was involuntarily sent to the ER. The Facebook post form her family stated, "After Misty arrived at the ER we went to see her and she has a swollen jaw, black eye and scratches and bruises on her shoulder. I asked the ER staff what happened and they said Misty was brought in like that. Misty said she couldn’t remember what happened but thats why she feared the police," the post reads.

The 32-year old star's father, Charles, said “I, Charles, went there after Fire Department officials recovered her body and you just can’t see the steep drop until it’s too late,” the medical examiner confirmed that she died on October 5.

The cause of her death is still under investigation.
