So the Neil Gaiman Hansel and Gretel Movie version is definitely a go, and producing it will be none other than the man himself, Steven Spielberg.
According to reports, Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey and Juliet Blake are teaming up to develop a live-action version of Neil Gaiman's adaptation on the Hansel and Gretel children's story.
Gaiman, who is not a rookie when it comes to movie adaptations of his work, has been pretty quiet about the whole planning in the movie. According to cinemablend.com: "Asked to comment on his upcoming comic's acquisition, Neil Gaiman said, 'I'm thrilled and delighted to be working with Juliet Blake to bring Hansel and Gretel to the world again, and to show people how much this story has to say to us.'"
The Sandman author wrote his version of Hansel and Gretel and made use of the talent of Lorenzo Mattotti to illustrate for him. Together, they made an incredibly imaginative piece that attracted even the likes of Spielberg to have it on the big screen.
According to screenrant.com: "Gaiman (via Variety) has described his and Mattotti's take on Hansel and Gretel as a story with modern relevance, having said that 'It reminds us of how paper thin civilization really is. It's about hunger, and about families.' The cinematic adaptation of Gaiman's fairy tale re-imagining doesn't have a writer or director attached yet, but the source material's film rights have been picked up by producer Juliet Blake - who's fresh off the financially successful The Hundred-Foot Journey book-turned movie - through her Four Chickens for a Five banner."
As for who will be incharge of the screenwriting for the Neil Gaiman Hansel and Gretel Movie, there is currently no news as to who the producers have spoken with or is eyeing for this project, but in terms of who will be playing the lead roles in the upcoming film, rumors have surfaced that Elle Fanning and Josh Hutcherson are in the running.
