BBC Music Awards 2014: One Direction, Ed Sheeran, And Coldplay Will Perform In BBC Music Awards On Dec 11

One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Calvin Harris, Paloma Faith and Clean Bandit will perform at the inaugural BBC Music Awards in London on Dec. 11, the U.K. public broadcaster announced on Friday.

The U.K. public broadcaster first unveiled the new awards show, which will compete with the BRIT Awards, earlier this year.

Said Coldplay's Chris Martin: "We're really looking forward to the BBC Music Awards. It's an incredible lineup and we're honored to be part of it."

Hosted by BBC radio and TV personalities Chris Evans andFearne Cotton and broadcast live on BBC One from London's Earl's Court, "a glittering array of U.K. and international artists will come together to celebrate an amazing year in music with a series of breathtaking musical performances from some of the biggest names in the business," the BBC said.

Said Charlotte Moore, the controller of BBC One: "BBC One is proud to host the inaugural BBC Music Awards. The channel has a reputation for bringing the nation together for big events and this stellar lineup promises an incredible evening and celebration of music on the BBC."

During the event, three awards will be presented. They are the British Artist of the Year, International Artist of the Year and Song of the Year honors.

Said Bob Shennan, director of BBC Music: "The lineup so far for the BBC Music Awards features some of the world's most popular performers, and is a clear statement of BBC Music's ambition, which is to give listeners and viewers the very best in musical entertainment. I know our audiences are in for a musical treat."

The BBC also said that 13,500 tickets have gone on sale for $-$ (£25-£45).
