The Daredevil Netflix release date is yet to be revealed but rest assured, it will be as awesome, or much better, than some Marvel projects you've seen, at least that's what lead star Charlie Cox want you to think. During a press conference in New York for the premier of the movie Theory of Everything wherein he has a supporting role, the Boardwalk Empire alum told reporters that the production staff and whole gang of the Marvel-based TV show are making sure that their work will be awesome and different from any other comic books-based TV projects.
"I've read comics after comics after comics - I've never read so many comics in my life - and we're finding moments from the comics to reference in the show," he explained. "We're trying to make a show that's new and much, much darker than anything I've ever seen Marvel do before."
Cox said the concept for the Daredevil Netflix series is darker because his Matt Murdock will be 'addicted' in implementing justice in his own hands.
"The concept that he can't stop," he said. "He's going out, and he's taking the law into his own hands, and he doesn't know if he can stop."
"He might be addicted to it."
Another thing that fans can expect from the upcoming Daredevil Netflix series is the fact that the scarlet vigilante isn't the exact superhero that fans think of. For showrunner Steven DeKnight, he's not the kind that you would root for.
"There are no heroes and villains, just people making choices," DeKnight told the Guardian. "There will be times on the show when you won't be sure who to root for."
"[Daredevil is] one bad day from becoming Frank Castle instead of Matt Murdock. With Wilson Fisk, when you hear the explanation of what he's doing and why he's doing it, you'll say, 'You know that's not a bad idea. That's pretty good.'"
Aside from Cox, Daredevil Netflix series also stars Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Nelson as Foggy Nelson and Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple.
