Keanu Reeves' movie John Wick will premiere on October 24, the first film of the 50-year old Canadian actor ever since he did the 47 Ronin in 2014. If you're wondering why the Matrix star failed to show up in at least one studio film over the past years, it is because he wasn't getting any. In an interview with Indie Wire's Eric Kohn, Reeves revealed that he didn't receive any calls from major film studios in Hollywood, and he's not comfortable with it.
Kohn asked Reeves why most Keanu Reeves movies over the last couple of years are not produced by more known film studio outfit and if he prefers indie projects. His reply:
"Not really. The last studio movie I did was "47 Ronin," but before that it had been a long time - probably "The Day the Earth Stood Still." So I haven't been getting many offers from the studios."
Reeves even said it sucks.
"No, it sucks, but it's just the way it is. You can have positive and negative experiences, but what I like about studios are the resources and the worlds that they can create. Obviously, a lot of good filmmakers work on studio movies. Even when I was working on studio movies more often, I was always doing independent movies. So for me, that was just not happening, but I want to keep going, making things, and telling stories. I want to be able to do that - to be an actor, a director, to produce, you know? If we're going to do a delineation between studio and independent [films], I was always hoping to do both."
Right Keanu Reeves' movie John Wick, an independently produced one but was later acquired by Lions Gate is getting good reviews. This film tells the story of a former hitman, played by Reeves, who gave up his past job for the love of his wife, Helen (Bridget Moynahan). However, after some thugs broke into his home and killed the puppy that his wife gave him, he was forced to go into a mission of revenge.
Keanu Reeves Movie John Wick is directed by Chad Stahelski and written by Derek Kolstad.
