'Half Life 3' Release Date Remains a Mystery; Game Now Considered a Vaporware as Valve Remains Mum

| By

Six years after its announcement, "Half Life" avid gamers are still left hanging as its American developer remains mum in terms of the video game's third edition release date and even its production. Citing Valve's former employee, Christian Post reported that "Half Life 3" might be underway now but no confirmation is still made.

Former Valve employee, Minh Le, has previously been quoted that "he has seen some concept of the next Hal-Life game as well as progress for Left for Dead 3." As a past insider in the American game developing company, Le claimed that "Half-Life" is currently in its production stage. On the other hand, he showed no proofs to support his claims.

Christian Today also cited an official from Valve that somehow made it clear that "Half Life 3" release date is far from being imminent. In an interview with Washington Post, Gabe Newell, co-founder of Valve, said "When we started out we were a single-player video game company that could have been really successful just doing Half-Life sequel after Half-Life sequel, but we collectively said let's try to make multiplayer games even though there's never been a commercial successful multiplayer game."

This statement is reportedly a product of the mix reception that "Hal Life 1" and 2 had during the game's launch. The first two installments of "Half-Life" have gotten good raves but reports said the two video games are not able to deliver the desired sales and reception.

Valve is also reportedly in a re-direction as the "Half-Life 3" release date's delay is blamed to another upcoming video game, Steam. Movie Pilot also cited Newell statement which states that Valve has been working for Steam, although some employees are really in to developing "Half-life" series.

Newell said 'There were a bunch of people internally who thought Steam was a really bad idea' but it is clear that Valve is in its re-direction stage. Though fans are not against new games being developed, the game developer cannot deny the fans clamor for "Half-life 3."

Newell, back in 2010, claimed that the delay is caused by their 'broadening the emotional palette' of the game series. He also assured that the upcoming "Half-Life 3" will genuinely scare the gamers. But until now, "Half-life 3" has no release date.

The game, originally slated for December 2007 release, is now considered a vaporware after its several release and production delay. "Vaporware is a product which is announced by a company to the general public but is never actually developed nor is it cancelled."

This infamous situation is heart breaking especially to the fans of the "Half-life" series. They are surely hoping to hear some news from Valve themselves.
