Enhanced Connectivity On OS X Yosemite: How To Activate ‘Handoff’ In iPhone And iPad iOS 8 Devices; Syncing With Mac Made Easier

| By

After upgrading your Macs to OS X Yosemite and checking compatibility between your iPhone and iPad (iOS 8) and Mac laptops and/or desktops, you are now ready to activate "HandOff" and enjoy seamless connectivity among your Apple devices.

"Handoff" is a new feature of the recently released OS X Yosemite that allows connectivity among Apple devices such as iPhone, iPad iOS 8 and Mac laptops and desktops. It enables the user to move from one device to another, working where they left off in apps such as "Mail, Safari, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Maps, Messages, Reminders, Calendar, and Contacts", according to Apple's website.

How to enjoy the enhanced connectivity, users must first have devices that adhere to minimum requirements to use the feature. Although upgrade to OS X Yosemite is allowed for older versions of Mac, this does not directly mean that "HandOff" will automatically be available. Apparently, this feature is applicable to devices that are built with Bluetooth 4.0 (LE) in which this kind of connectivity level thrives on.

How to ensure that your devices are ready for "Handoff": In iPhone iOS 8 devices, only those with Bluetooth 4.0 (LE) are compatible with the new feature "Handoff" - iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, and iPhone 5s and iPad 3 (iOS 8) or above. For Mac laptops and desktops, the Bluetooth hardware should be at least ox6 in LMP version.

After ensuring that your Mac laptops and desktops as well as iPhone and iPad (iOS 8) are compatible (and of course after installing OS X Yosemite), how to activate the new feature "Handoff" is easy.

In your Mac laptop or desktop, how to setup the "Handoff" on the OS X Yosemite system is easy. First, switch on your Bluetooth. Then, go to System Preferences, and click on iCloud. Make sure that you are signed in to your account. After this, click on the back arrow to return to System Preferences, and select General on the upper left-hand corner. Lastly, tick the box that says "Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices."

How to set-up accessibility of the new feature "Handoff" on your iPhone and iPad (iOS 8) after installing OS X Yosemite on your Mac, again turn on your Bluetooth. Open Settings, and make sure you are logged in to your iCloud. And then return to Setting, and turn on the switch for "Enable Handoff". Et voila!
