The release of the latest OS X Yosemite update for Mac desktops and laptops have Mac users downloading away.
Although upgrading may be a simple task, new features like "Handoff" is relatively new to Mac users and may be quite confusing. Read on to find out the minimum requirements of your iPhones to learn how to use the newest connectivity app from Apple.
What is Apple's newest connectivity app, now called "Handoff"? This new feature upon the installment of OS X Yosemite on your Mac device allows users to basically switch between devices - Mac or any iPhone (provided it follows minimum requirements for installment) - in using applications such as Contacts, Calendars, Microsoft Documents, and the like. This allows "your devices work together in even smarter ways," according to Apple.
New features of "Handoff" also allows users to answers calls from iPhone to your Mac, even dial to call using your Mac. The same ringtone also plays in your Mac as it does on your iPhone. Another new feature of the OS X Yosemite "Handoff" is that the connectivity allows you to send and receive SMS messages on both devices, as it remains synced.
Apart from the new features of "Handoff" mentioned above, when you install OS X Yosemite, you are able to work with an instant hotspot as promoted by "Handoff's" connectivity abilities.
According to Apple, as long as you have installed OS X Yosemite, and through the "Handoff" app, your iPhone and your Mac are in constant communication: "your Mac can remotely activate the Personal Hotspot on your iPhone when they are near each other. Simply select your iPhone from the Wi-Fi menu on your Mac and you'll be online in seconds. You don't even have to take your iPhone out of your pocket or bag. When connected to a hotspot, your Mac displays the signal strength and battery life of your iPhone at the top of the Wi‑Fi menu."
The idea behind OS X Yosemite's "Handoff" is basically this: "You start writing a report on your iMac, but you want to continue on your iPad as you head to your meeting. 'Handoff' makes it possible." The new features of OS X Yosemite's "Handoff" allows apps such as "Mail, Safari, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Maps, Messages, Reminders, Calendar, and Contacts" to be synced between devices.
