'Divergent' star Miles Teller will be breaking several sticks as a jazz drummer pushed to the edge in 'Whiplash.' The film will play in cinemas on October 23.
According to an interview with Hollywood Reporter, however, he won't be letting go of music even after 'Whiplash' promotions. This time, though, he will have to let go of the drumsticks and focus more on his fingers
The Wrap previously reported that the 'That Awkward Moment' actor was in talks to star alongside 'Harry Potter' alum Emma Watson in a musical love story, 'La La Land.' The film will also be directed by 'Whiplash' helmer Damien Chazelle.
Teller will play a jazz pianist while Watson will play an aspiring actress.
"It's a full musical; there will be dance numbers and I'm singing and Emma's singing," the 'Spectacular Now' actor said.
"At its core, this is a movie about artists in love-and what it means to be an artist in love in arguably the most competitive city on the planet," Chazelle told The Wrap about the project.
He added, "How do you juggle the need to find success as an artist with the need to share oneself with another human being? And how do you do so in a place where every poster, every street corner and every sign remind you of the glories just beyond reach?"
He hopes to convey a "full-fledged romanticism you hardly ever see in today's movies." He also hopes to bring out the spirit of L.A. in the film.
Miles Teller also shared his thoughts about the new project to Hollywood Reporter. He compared 'La La Land' to 'Whiplash' saying, "Where 'Whiplash' looks at all the pain and the torture and the fear and the anxiety that come with performing music, this one looks at the joy and the love that you get from it."
Teller will have to work on the boxing-themed movie 'Bleed For You,' where he plays world champion Vinny Pazienza, before shooting for 'La La Land.'
After wrapping up 'Bleed For You' in December, Miles Teller will be starting rehearsals for 'La La Land' on February "to achieve a Gene Kelly-kinda vibe."
