United States Vice President Joe Biden's youngest son, Hunter Biden, has reportedly been forced to leave the military. This is following the result of his drug test last year that resulted positive for cocaine. The information was provided by a couple of people who are aware of the incident.. The Wall Street Journal was the first to report his discharge due to a failed drug test.
The Navy said that Biden was discharged last February which is barely a year after he was selected for the part-time position as a public affairs officer in the Navy Reserve. The Navy did not provide a reason for Biden's abrupt discharge due to privacy laws. The reason was not disclosed until it surfaced in the media on Thursday.
According to the 44-year-old Biden, "It was the honor of my life to serve in the U.S. Navy," he continued, "I deeply regret and am embarrassed that my actions led to my administrative discharge." Biden also accepted and respected the Navy's decision and he was moving forward with his family's love and support.
Biden decided to apply to join the Navy Reserve as a public affairs office. He was selected in 2012 as one of seven candidates recommended for a direct commission for public affairs. Before deciding and making the recommendation, a board of senior Navy officers interviewed Biden. The former lobbyist, who worked at a private equity firm, had been assigned to the Navy Public Affairs Support Element East, which is based in Norfolk, Virginia.
The terms of Biden's leave from the Navy are still unclear. Usually, military members who were discharged for failing their drug tests are not able to receive an honorable discharge.
The office of the vice president has declined to comment on the matter. The lawyer of Hunter Biden has also decided not to respond to inquiries at the moment regarding the alleged use of cocaine.
