The Last Of Us Movie Release: The Most Romantic Thriller Zombie Film Of 2016!

| By

Naughty Dog's zombie apocalypse action game The Last of Us is getting a movie adaptation, with game director Neil Druckmann penning the script.

The video game is set in a broken-down, overgrown vision of America twenty years after a destructive viral outbreak, with plenty of different stories that could be set within the same world. Despite its title, Joel and Ellie, the central characters of The Last of Us, are not really the last people on Earth.

Druckmann confirmed that the movie will have the same story as the video game.

"It's an adaptation of the story of The Last of Us. As far as where we go and how we make it fit into a film, how it takes into account the unique properties of film... We're not sure yet. We're only just scratching the surface."

Also, director Sam Raimi already announced the filming of the zombie survival game, The Last of Us, during the San Diego Comic-Con last week.

The story is about the death-defying journey of Joel and Ellie, two survivors of a post-apocalyptic fungal outbreak that turned most of humanity into zombies. And how the two heroes will find the cure to the plague while staying alive.

"It's gonna be a great character journey, a great love story and great horror fiction," Raimi told the audience.

The movie was rumored to get a 2016 release date, if production begins next year. The news has thrilled the game's fans to watch their favorite characters in flesh and blood.

The big questions remain about the cast of Last of Us: particularly for the lead characters Joel and Ellie. However, lead roles are highly possible to be played by Hugh Jackman as Joel and Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams as Ellie.

Though, other names are also being considered, like Ellen Page (who plays Kitty Pryde in the X-Men franchise) and Chloe Grace Moretz of Kick-Ass's Hit-Girl for Ellie's role. While Gerard Butler, Josh Brolin, Michael Fassbender and Jon Hamm are emerging as a tough contenders for Joel's role.
