The Kesha and Dr. Luke rift that translated into lawsuits against each camp days ago is now in the mud-slinging stage with online media as arena. As of the moment, the frontliners releasing statements for both camps are Mark Gerago, lawyer of Kesha et al., and Christine Lepera, defending Dr. Luke.
For a brief background, Kesha's camp filed a lawsuit for emotional and sexual abuse against Dr. Luke, her music producer with whom she's under contract since she was 18. Kesha's camp ultimately wants to be released from Dr. Luke's fold so she could manage her music career.
The statements released by each lawyer aim to build up support from online audience, which would somehow drumbeat who's to be favored in the sala of the judges.
In response to Kesha's lawsuit, Christine Lepera said Kesha's camp would like to pressure his client, Dr. Luke, to release Kesha from their management contract by using outrageous claims. She released this fraction of an email sent a year ago by Pebe Sebert, Kesha's mother, to support her point:
"Tomorrow I am going to start making public how Dr. Luke blackmailed me into giving him and Circuit publishing credit, on all songs I wrote on warrior, with Kesha and other writers and producers... We, me and kesha and her friends... are going to make all of this Really PUBLIC, in the next few days. Luke date raped Kesha when she was 18. Nicky Hilton's birthday? Paris Hiltons house? Luke gave Kesha pills? She ended up naked in his hotel room 2 days later, no longer a virgin? Do we want all this to come out? either this Luke releases Kesha from all legal contracts, and gives me back all my publishing, or we, Kesha and I. tell the truth."
Mark Gerago, in defending Kesha's camp, responded with:
"It is telling that Dr. Luke would twist an email from a horrified and justifiably angry mother threatening to tell the truth -- the truth! -- about the predator that sexually assaulted her daughter. It is offensive -- but not surprising -- that Dr. Luke would try and pervert the words of a concerned mother to try and keep Kesha under his unilateral control against her will."
Being accused of date rape, along with other allegations, is serious enough on the part of Dr. Luke. And to get justice and vindication by merely being released from his fold seems too 'light' for Kesha, this writer believes.
It would help to know who Dr. Luke really is since this issue boomed. For one, he's been a long-time music producer who has worked with stars like Kelly Clarkson (Since U Been Gone), Pink (Who Knew), Britney Spears (Hold It Against Me), Miley Cyrus (Party in the USA), and Avril Lavigne (Boyfriend). He started as a lead guitarist in the NBC show's house band in 1997, and then earned his own spotlight as DJ in New York City. He also owns two publishing companies for the songs he makes. He employed Kesha, together with Katy Perry, in these music publishing companies.
