PS4 Jailbreak Hack Spreading Online: Upsets Sony Company!

Oct 14, 2014 11:58 PM EDT | By Staff Reporter

A hack came out and brought potential disaster and chaos to PS4 even before having a full month after its release!

The hacker named Reckz0r seems to be trying to upset Sony--as well as getting back his fans' adoration--after a year of his absence in the online hacking world. Now, Reckz0r did one absurd thing: "Hacking the PS4."

The pastebin, where the hacker is rumored to post his jail breaking steps, which seemingly provided download links to a "PS4 Devkit" and a Jailbreak package came out with the files do not actually exist, and no mirror is to be found anywhere. Resulting to a growing suspicions that it's a fake.

GrahamCluley.com reports that the hacker has published a tutorial on how to jailbreak the PS4, which makes use of Orbis OS (as it is based on FreeBSD, an open source OS). Though Reckz0r claimed that he did not do the hacking, he is, in fact, responsible behind the PS4 tutorial hack, so much so that even Sony has started to give warnings.

According to the report, Reckz0r and Sony have already had a conversation using direct messaging in the official PlayStation Twitter account:

"No? We're giving you one day, to delete that Pastebin link you have recently posted, alongside with the files if you have uploaded them somewhere. It won't take us long to get you arrested if you're still going to proceed spreading the jailbreak. :) Take the Geohotz scenario as an example."

Everybody who's had a professional activity in their life knows that an official PR-related twitter account from a respectable company such as Sony would never contact a hacker directly like that on twitter, especially to use such irrelevant threats. It's also noticed that Direct Messages in Twitter are limited to 140 characters. That didn't seem to be part of the faker's plan that he is really trying hard to make it obvious this whole thing is a joke.

Reckz0r (the same guy that screwed microsoft and sony years ago) released a statement that he didn't come up with the hack, just wrote a tutorial for it to buy himself some credibility. He points to another hacker by the name of x-s4nd3r as the "origin" of the hack. x-s4nd3r is a hacker who was known for ruining websites, a hacking that requires skills that is extremely different from hacking a console. Therefore this person behind a PS4 jailbreak is highly unlikely, both because the skillset is different, but also probably because that person has no interest in console hacking.

To summarize it all: a known faker releases a pastebin with absolutely "no proof" of anything, links are clearly missing, none of the "sources" he mentions can be found anywhere, his twitter "proof" is an obvious joke, his tutorial itself is highly suspicious and contains several points that do not make sense.

What to do best? Stay away from the hack and just play by the rules as Sony has established them, to guarantee the best gaming experience with your PS4.
