Apple’s next generation of iPhone, rumored to be released around this October along with the new iOS 6, is already bringing a wild sensation in the online community. The next rumor regarding this highly anticipated smartphone with an apple logo is regarding the Yelp “check-in” service.
Bloomberg reported that Yelp’s check-in function will be integrated into the Apple Maps function, which will be one of the main new features of iOS6, the next version of mobile operating system. iOS 6 is expected to power Apple’s next smartphone, dubbed the iPhone 5.
“Apple is important for Yelp,” said an analyst at Raymond James & Associates, Aaron Kessler to Bloomberg in an interview.
“About 40 percent of traffic to Yelp is from their mobile app. That number may be higher if you include browser-based mobile.”
The Yelp’s check-in service, started in 2010, is designed to let its user to “check-in” at certain locations, such as a restaurant, café, park, or stores. The “checked-in” location could be shared with friends, families, or others connected to the users in social-networking websites. The check-in service will track how many people have checked in at certain locations as well.
With the integration of Yelp’s check-in service with Apple’s Maps, users will no longer have to exit the mapping service to check-in.
Apple is planning to drop Google Map as its default mapping service on iOS 6. Apple has developed its own map, which is also to include 3D view and turn-by-turn navigation.
